The Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization (VIDO) was established in 1975 at the University of Saskatchewan. VIDO is one of the largest most advanced containment facilities in the world with large animal containment level 2 and containment level 3 housing, and containment level 4 labs and animal housing in development. VIDO is renowned for establishing animal models of disease for both animal diseases and as models for human diseases. VIDO recently established a containment level 3 capable cGMP biologics manufacturing facility with up to 1000L capacity. The manufacturing facility provides VIDO with a continuum of development from discovery research to vaccine manufacturing. Vaderstad Industries Inc. first started in 1992 as Seed Hawk Inc. near Langbank, Saskatchewan, where they manufacture precision seeding systems for use in zero tillage seeding with toolbar widths ranging from 20’ - 84’. Products also include tow between or tow behind air carts with capacities of 400 bushels to 1000 bushels. Seed Hawk’s patented hydraulically operated, low disturbance independent opener emerged in 1992 and through a series of innovations has become the back bone of the success of the company, along with other innovations like pioneering Sectional Control Technology® and iCon® Wireless Control. Since 2003, Seed Hawk has grown from 15 employees to over 150. In 2004, a domestic dealer network was established and the company continues to grow. In 2006, Seed Hawk sold a minority share in the company to a Swedish agricultural company - Väderstad AB, the largest planting, seeding and tillage manufacturer in Europe. In 2013, Väderstad bought full ownership of Seed Hawk, and in October 2017, the Saskatchewan-based company changed its name to Vaderstad Industries Inc. to align with the global Väderstad Group.
